Blood tests are an essential part of your pet’s health. Just as in human medicine, blood tests are beneficial in diagnosing what is ailing your pet. Blood tests can tell the veterinarian a myriad of things, including if your pet is dehydrated or fighting an infection.
However, blood tests are not only recommended when your pet is sick. They are also recommended for healthy pets on a yearly basis. Do you know how old your pet is in people years? On average, your pet ages 5-10 people years for every one of theirs. We recommend that a preventive blood screen be performed annually on your furry pet in order to keep them happy and healthy.
Annual blood work will provide a baseline for what is normal for your own pet, and in the unfortunate event that your pet gets sick, we can monitor the progression. As our pets age, their internal organs begin to lose efficiency or slow down. By screening for these abnormalities early in the disease process, we are able to make changes in diet or care that can greatly enhance and increase your pet’s quality of life.
